Our New Role & Relationship With The Pastoralist Community Development Associations (PCDAs

Working with Community Based Organisations - “To empower them to work for themselves”.

A few years back, and with help and support of the Ilkerin Loita Integral Development Programme (ILIDP), the Loita Maasai organized themselves into six Community Based Organizations (CBOs) known as the Pastoralists Community Development Associations (PCDAs). Essentially, the Pastoralists Community Development Associations (PCDAs) are grassroots organizational structures based on geographical distribution and natural communities and registered with the Department of Culture and Social Services as Self Help groups. They have their own organizational structure and by laws and a mentoring partnership with the Ilkerin Loita Integral Development Programme (ILIDP). To the Ilkerin Loita Integral Development Programme (ILIDP), the Pastoralists Community Development Associations (PCDAs) are ideal means for devolution, decentralizing power and resources and empowering the grassroots.

The Ilkerin Loita Integral Development Programme (ILIDP) will assume a lesser role in the community and evolve into a small, professional organisational with the technical capacity to support grassroots Community Based Organizations (CBOs). During this programme phase, the Pastoralists Community Development Associations (PCDAs) will become the vehicles for undertaking all the activities at the grassroots. Ilkerin Loita Integral Development Programme (ILIDP), however, will not abandon them but will continue its mentoring role until their nascent capacity grows.
